Amalia Foka was born in Patras in 1976. She completed the BEng in Computer Systems Engineering in 1998 and the MSc in Advanced Control in 1999 at the University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology (UMIST), UK. Following, she completed her PhD (2005) in the area of robotics at the Department of Computer Science, University of Crete, where at the same time she was at the Institute of Institute of Computer Science (ICS) of the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) in Heraklion.
Her research interests lie in the fields of artificial intelligence, autonomous robots, genetic algorithms, neural networks and computer science applications in art, digital art, interactive media and generative art. She has published six papers in international journals and conferences. She also has extensive teaching experience in higher education and professional experience in research projects and project evaluations.
She is with the Greek School Network and Networking Technologies Directorate of Computer Technology Institute and Press “Diophantus” since 2014. Since July 2014 she is Assistant Professor in the Department of Fine Arts & Art Sciences of the University of Ioannina on Computer Science Applications for Arts.
